new pair o shoes posted: Fri 2011-12-02 19:18:05 tags: fitness
Looking forward to trying my new running shoes. My previous pair were some comfy velcro-enabled cheapest-possible-sneaker from Target or the like, that I bought just to have something less bulky than my steel toe work boots to wear on planes and vaycay.

To recap my shopping process, I had looked through reviews to get a handle on what would be a good buy in my price range, up to $100, and a Runners World magazine review suggested the Saucony ProGrid 2 Kinvara as a superior value in that range.

My first stop was Runner's Edge on Federal Hwy in Boca, because I believe in shopping local indie stores; if they sucked, Nordstrom at the Town Center mall was my backup plan, but that turned out to not be necessary.

The only pair they had in my size were neon orange, which might go with my blog, but not with my black-and-white office attire. The salesgirl also suggested the Kinvara is designed for a narrow foot and not really well suited for me.

So we tried a couple pair of Nikes. I went with the Free Run+ 2, which they happened to have in all-black. For $90 I'm getting the color I want. At that price these are almost certainly the most expensive sneakers I've ever had. Kind of a weird tongueless design, but they're comfy. I thought I took a 10-and-a-half, and perhaps in dress shoes I do, but in sneakers even the 11s were too snug. I ended up in 11-and-a-half.
