sun - NC State Fair recap posted: Sun 2018-10-14 20:04:43 tags: n/a
Saturday we set out for the NC State Fairgrounds around 12:30 or 1. I set the 4501 Reedy Creek Rd parking lot for our destination, and Google Maps kept waffling and recalculating en route as jammed traffic was apparently considered total blockage. We ended up circling the fairground and shelling out $20 at an especially convenient lot on the south side near Gate 2. On the drive home, we would note lots of cars parked in totally unlit and seemingly dangerous spots along the Hillsborough St. approach to the Rt 440 ramp. So I'm fine with where we parked and what we paid.

By far our greatest expense was food: $23 for a basket of deep-fried shrimp and a couple baskets of hush puppies; a $10 steak sandwich and a $9 sub sandwich; $5 for 2 bottles of water; a $4 deep-fried Reese's PB cup / Oreo abomination; and $13 for Neomonde Mediterranean's award-winner SoJo Melt sandwich - a Turkish twist on Philly cheesesteak with ground lamb, cilantro and jalapeno, hummus, lettuce, tomato, etc. Should have been served in a pita but oh well.

We did not throw money away on midway games. The prizes are cheap throwaway crap that we as grown-ups wouldn't want anyway. We did plunk down $5 a head to ride one of the FOUR Ferris wheels. We did very much enjoy the craft and gardening exhibits. We should have been better-prepared for all the other little free shows, and a "boarding pass" for the tram seems like it might be a good deal if it's the unlimited hop-on/off deal I suspect. We did not quite make it to 9:45 for the fireworks display. We stopped in at Harris Teeter for lottery tix on the way home, and rested our tired feets while we did social media stuff with pics before bed.
