Reached a sticking point today when I saw my department was under orders to ignore payment demands by email again. Forwarded a combustible example of said email to my supervisor, with a soft ultimatum that I'll be happy to continue my job without fielding escalated payment demand calls, but I'm not interested in continuing to absorb the emotional backlashes that are practically guaranteed by intentionally ignoring email. It's not buying time; it's just setting the front line up for increasingly emotional, combative, even threatening follow-ups.
