per twitter, session 119: 3.3mi / 46minutes? Half-miles at 6.5 and 5.5 alternating with cooldowns. I think just a few degrees of air conditioning makes a HUGE difference. Maybe having half a subway turkey, egg, and cheese at 11 and the other half around 1:30-2:00 primed me too. Whatever, it wasn't stellar time but I'm pretty happy with my endurance and recovery at the speeds I was at. Got home, took a shower, relaxed a bit, ran back out for groceries: a 4-pack of SR, a bottle of V8, a couple weeks' s... (...more)

Rinse and drain the sans-lentil mix 2 passes in cool water. In 2.25 cups fresh water and 4 shakes lite salt, bring to a boil, remove from heat, let quick-soak (at least) 1 hour.

Gently mix in a splash of olive oil, a couple more shakes of lite salt, a cup each frozen broccoli cuts and chopped spinach, 2/3 cups lentils, and 2 cups water. Simmer ~30 minutes.

Breakfast: the usual Lunch: 2 scramble wraps. Normally I cook 2 eggs at a time, 2 eggs per wrap. Today I tried 4 eggs on carefully controlled heat, which produces 2 convenient semi-circle serving shapes, and they didn't burn, but the down-side did turn that odd gray-green color that overcooked HB egg yolks get. Apparently this is caused by a reaction of iron in the yolk with hydrogen sulfide in the white, producing iron sulfide. Harmless, but aesthetically unappealing. The effect is more pronounced in o... (per twitter) session 118: 3.3mi / 41m59s. 1 lap at 7.5mph warmup, 1 lap breath-catch, then 5.5mph decrementing by .1mph per lap. 525 (535?) kcal at 193#. Aside from the warm-up, this was the purification of the pattern I loosely followed yesterday: start at a moderate-high pace and ease off incrementally. First 1/3 lap: 3.3mph walk, because my feet, ankles and lower legs bother me if I jump right in at speed. The other 2/3 lap: 7.5mph. Lap 2: cooldown, typically 1/3 at 2.7-2.9, 1/3 at 2.5 and 1/3 at 2... (...more)

(per twitter) session 117: 3.3mi / 42m37s. 1.25mi averaging 5.2mph, cooldown, the rest averaging 4.8mph. 535 kcal at 193#. I was feeling a bit blue that, as recently as Easter (April 8) I knocked out that 30-minute 5K, and here less than 3 months later I can barely hack 1.25 miles over 5mph. But then I remembered, hey, I had nothing to eat all day but a muffin and a few mouthfuls of smilk. So blow me. An ice cold pint of beer was heavenly. I thought a 3.5-serving can of wild pink salmon would provide... (...more)
