After all the internal processing Sat-Sun, the 4th Sunday feeding event was almost blasé. Rote and automatic is good, frees up mental energy to appreciate and connect. Next month, 4th Sun will fall on the weekend following Thanksgiving, so some of our volunteers will be out of town visiting family. So it's a good thing our volunteer base is growing. In Dec., 4th Sun will fall on Xmas Day, and the Methodist church is planning a big outreach event so I'm going to let St.G's event skip that month. Maybe w... (...more)

Coming to those realizations about "shame addiction" and "shame porn", I was encouraged to open "the vault" and confront/process some of the toxic emotional baggage from grammar school bullying dramas. There was one boy in particular who provoked and incited others to a lot of confusion, hurt, distrust, anger, and yes, shame. So, thinking about him, I did what I often do when I think about someone from my past - I Googled him. Turns out he's dead. Died 2014, cause unknown (obits didn't say). He had a... (...more)

Having learned so much about glassmaking, particularly the time and power requirements to cool finished glasswork, I realized... this is not a realistic cottage hobby at this point in my life. Aluminum casting COULD be realistic but I'm not as fired up about it. Haha, get it, fired up? After that I read and watched videos on a constellation of topics: A TEDx Talk celebrating self-pleasure, which wasn't particularly educational or perspective-widening to me. That led to 2 Talks I didn't finish, but whic... (...more)

In several years of irregularly mixing protein shakes from whey powder and soy milk, I've managed not to ever swig a big mouthful of smilk gone bad, but today it was marginal. It smelled fine, and possibly I just didn't rinse the soap out thoroughly last time I washed my shaker jar. To be on the safe side I dumped the smilk and mix. Rinsed my shaker bottle thoroughly, rinsed my mouth, the decision to hork or not was a slow one but I leaned toward not-horking in the end. Had a couple Conchita Maria cookies,... (...more)

Putting this here because in following politics, again and again I encounter this fabulous narrative that "liberals are planning to go door-to-door confiscating your guns" and just as often, the title of the right-wing paranoid fantasy novel that codifies the myth escapes me. In 1978, white supremacist William Luther Pierce penned The Turner Diaries under the pseudonym Andrew MacDonald. Similar to Jack London's The Iron Heel, it's presented as a time-capsule diary written by a white supremacist insurgent i... (...more)
