Another big theme in A.I. was the parent-child bond. Rather than over-explicate, suffice it to say it stirred some challenging feelings so close after the 1-year mark since Mom passed, and right before Mothers Day at that. Mothers Day was difficult last year. I suppose it will always be a little sad, but already not achingly so. Mom would not want us kids to get too mired in grief. How do you not get mired in grief? Last night's home movie pick was A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001). I saw it in the theater with Dad and maybe once since. I'd forgotten how awkward and unsettling the David character was in the first act. Still moves me to tears at unexpected moments. There's a lot to the movie from a film-student perspective; one dimension is that Spielberg directed it as an homage to Kubrick, evoking techniques from The Shining and 2001: A Space Odyssey. A full-time workload, which I haven't had since before EC, on the client's platforms instead of a machine I have full admin control over, and where 4G data access is spotty at best outside lunch hours... means I have a lot less time to blog. For better or worse. In the post-Cambridge-Analytica, post-Orange-Tide epoch, I also feel like I have less to say.
