Saturday Miss Cupcake sent me a link to a podcast that discussed "clicker" type games. The main focus was "Universal Paperclip" (hereafter UPC), a new-ish entry in the subgenre of what are more generally know as "idle" games. My descent into the phenomenon was mostly via "Adventure Capitalist", starting in mid-2015? The podcast mentioned AdvCap. Earlier this year when I'd done everything there was to do in AdvCap I tried "Taps to Riches" for a while, but part of the content seemed mysteriously broken/inacc... (...more)

Last week I got briefly sucked into Farmville 2. Its water economy, dripped out in 5-minute increments, quickly became too annoying to entertain. Monday I installed Leapdroid on \\dora and sampled the "Township" farm/cityville wannabe from Google Play. It plays fairly well as such things go, but ultimately it's just another egregious time sink. So, that's getting uninstalled. If for some reason I decide I want to emulate the Android OS on \\dora again, BlueStacks is probably a better solution. The control ... (...more)

Woke when the sky was still more dark than light, first coffee, spun up clampe's "Sunday Morning Sidewalks", revised my balance-sheet projection to end-of-year and "dashboard" spreadsheet, resuscitated a savings plan with transfer of a modest bump to my brokerage account. It looks like that won't clear before market close today, so I have time to meditate on what exactly I want to invest that in. I had stalled on refiguring ETF return ratios because frankly, Dividend Detective's "top" list hadn't chan... (...more)

I discovered Adventure Capitalist on Facebook, but there is a platform on Kongregate's site as well. The FB verison runs in Chrome but not Firefox. The Kong version, the opposite. What's even more curious about the Kong platform is, you have a different save-game depending what computer you log in from. I assume it stores session progress info attached to a cookie or unique client ID. There's no social aspect to it though - nothing to exploit by having multiple games going, and multiple logins force a cons... (...more)

Castle Age: I get bored with conquest monsters. So I started some forays into Samael and Vargulis. Turns out that aside from qualifying base damage as "contribution points", the "stance" mechanics are of little concern unless you're aiming for legendary drops, and in that case you should coordinate with other hunters to take advantage of synced attack bonuses. But for straight-up drops of "rare" loot, decent stuff is easy to score with fairly laid-back damage requirements. Usually successive monster rel... (...more)
