Started watching S1 of Hannibal series last night. As E1 opens, we meet Hugh Dancy as FBI special investigator Will Graham, but I'm not really a big fanboy of Harris's stories and wasn't listening carefully, so I just assumed this Aspie not-quite-agent with a psych background was young Dr. Lecter. Then when Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen and his accent appeared as the show's actual Hannibal, it was a bit confusing. There's an old adage along the lines that a merely good actor makes you see this man as Hamlet,... (...more)

Miss Cupcake had her eye on what looked like a great deal on a Jetta, but when we got there the car had been supposedly sold minutes before. Disappointing but I guess it's some kind of lesson about how car dealerships commonly operate. We did the theater experience of "Blade Runner 2049" recently, so with that fresh in my mind we watched Blade Runner (2007 "Final Cut" based on 1982 theatrical release, taking place in 2019). (Also 50 First Dates, and The Duchess.) Prior to BR2049's release, Scott de... (...more)

The CU paid out the promised 10 cents per debit transaction for August, $3.60 into my "share" (savings) account. Made this Food Network Shrimp Fra Diavolo recipe last night. A whole medium onion was maybe a bit much. In addition to the 1 tsp red pepper flakes up-front, I added a couple shakes of chili powder AND some creole seasoning mix near the end. It came out very spicy, but not overwhelmingly so. I'll probably back off the spice a little in the next iteration. Skimped on the shrimp because it cal... (...more)

Coffee Folded and put away laundry Fire alarm annual inspection team was sounding alarms on our floor as I was getting ready, so I lingered to supervise the inspection. Less than 2 minutes to verify the alarm was sounding (duh) and sprinklers... exist? I dunno. Picked up seltzer, yogurt, Naked protein drinks, rolls, crackers and hummus en route to work. Yogurt and hummus for brunch, 100mg caf and Costco protein bar for lunch. I signed up for CarGurus email newsflashes with some used car selection... (...more)

Fri eve we'd planned to try The Old Key Lime House but when we got there parking was mobbed and we didn't want to cough up for valet, so we retreated to Payathai. Tried the Ozeki Platinum sake, drinkable but I would have been just as happy with the lighter, sweeter and cheaper Hana Awaka. Sat. some channel was running the 1989 Batman movie (Michael Keaton), so we watched that, and I'd never seen the 1992 sequel ("Batman Returns") so we rented it off Prime. I insisted on Old Key Lime House and we got the... (...more)
