Traffic was amazing (in the good way), super busy morning with staff teleconference. New (to me) lappy received. It's awfully heavy compared to \\dora. The charger cable has a RIDICULOUSLY huge biscuit to transform AC (wall outlet) power into whatever volts/amps the lappy takes. Picked a name, \\codger, evoking Latin cogere, in the sense of "understanding", which is fundamental to empathy, which in turn drives all Godly work. Following along with \\dora's provisioning, ran Novabench and got: RAM sp... (...more)

I received \\dora 2016-05-10. It was never a high performer, so now that I've got a car refresh taken care of, it felt not-unreasonable to get a lappy that will keep up with me a bit better too. After a lot of unsatisfactory sifting on Amazon, I ended up going to Newegg and searching for "refurbished", Win 10 Pro, 8-16GB RAM, 15.6" screen size. As a Windows user, when I provision a new (to me) computer for my own use, I create a folder like c:\usr or c:\[my initials] or the like, and tell Explorer to "move" the "My Documents" folder there. This becomes the root of your personal filing system. Then when you want to set up an automated backup process, that's the folder it w... (...more)
jQuery UI revisited posted: Wed 2017-07-05 12:41:26 tags: tech
For whatever reason, when I reloaded the databases and whatnots to start adapting an old jQuery project, it didn't work. So I figured I better update all the libraries and make sure they play nice together. First, I referred to this jQuery-UI autocomplete demo and verified it behaves the same serving from my WAMP stack as it does online. Something I'm a bit concerned about is... the current version of jQuery-UI trumpets compatibility with jQuery 1.7+ (as of last November), but the current verison of jQu... (...more)
