I knew I needed to run dark laundry. Yesterday I thought today I might also hit a movie (Gatsby), and the gym, and Total Wine, but by the time I got laundry done, relaxing at home was compelling. So, no wine unless I splurge on something from Pubilx. I do need groceries. I thought I blahged about this recently - a snatch of lyric, perhaps "waiting for so long" or "away for so long" sung in a Kate Moss class soprano - but in fact it was that Underworld song, "Stagger", that I blolged about. This snatch w... (...more)

Missing Monkey. Playing fetch, and how she would run around meowing with the shoelace we called her "string friend". Sometimes she would put her string friend in their water dish, we were never sure if she thought she was drowning a snake or taking care of a kitten. Did an "easy" 4 miles last night: 1mi at 5.7mph, cooloff, 1mi at 5.4, cooloff, finish at 5.7. Scale at the gym said 184#, scale at the Palmetto Park Square Pubilx said 179.5, scale at the West Boca Plaza Publix said 180.75. So let's say 181.... (...more)

Today I got some chicken tenderloins (4 garlic-and-herbed, 4 spicy chili/cayenne) and turkey dogs precooked for meals, and a yummy dinner of whole-wheat fusilli, chicken, broccoli, spinach and olives lined up. Per somebody's Facebook response I gave pre-sliced olives a try. Specifically, Vigo Kalamatas, because they were the cheapest thing on the shelf. I really liked the Vigo black olives (with pits), but they were so soft I thought maybe they were overripe. They were s... (...more)

Before yesterday, the last time I hit the gym was May 26, the Sunday before Memorial Day. So, two full weeks off. In the interim I probably picked up the dumbbells a couple times and did some triceps dips, maybe a set or two of half-push-ups (half being halfway between wall pushups and proper floor pushups). I did get my sit-up mat out late last week and determined my abs are still in fair condition. Yesterday started with 1 cup of coffee and a scramble dog wrap before I showered and dressed and hurried... (...more)

Presbyterianism is a Calvinist denomination. Calvinism (as opposed to Arminianism) teaches that God selected and predestined some for salvation despite mankind's total depravity. Arminianism teaches that God imbued us with free will to respond to (or resist) His salvation by grace. Calvinism doesn't sit well with me. I don't see the justice, mercy or love in God creating a predestined clockwork universe where people, with subjectively authentic feelings whether "totally depraved" or not, are run through...
