Last week I thought I'd get better acquainted with the credit union accounts I set up last year. But searching through my suitcase, messenger bag, and other places I stash hardcopy, I couldn't find any account numbers or "welcome kit". I can log into my application online and pull a reference number from it, and that's all. I felt like I'd like to have my ducks lined up a little better than that when I call to set up online access, so I searched through my storage unit... to no avail.

The storage facility is fine for what it is, but the moderate A/C and motion-sensing lighting and unyielding surfaces aren't really conducive to an exhaustive search of a half-height unit. So I didn't search exhaustively on the spot. Also, it'd be grand if I could empty it and close up that account by March 31, one less bill to pay y'know? so I resolved to bring home boxes to search through individually, and meanwhile discarding and compacting stuff to a carload.

So yesterday I brought home a box including my saucepan, some spices and condiments, and books. I separated out a stack of books that I intend to replace with digital editions, if ever. Funny thing about me and books though - I feel like I'm committing a grave sin by just throwing them in the trash. Waffling over what to do with them, I discovered BookCrossing.

The tracking concept requires "released" books be labeled. The site offers several labeling solutions, their least preferred of which is hand-writing a blurb in the book:
"You can hand-label your book by writing a note like this:
"I've registered this book at BookCrossing.com so I can track its journey through the world. Please go to www.BookCrossing.com and enter this BCID: 123-456789 to let me know you found it. Then read it and/or pass it on for someone else to enjoy. Thank you!"
