A Dungeon and/or a Dragon - Tomb of Annihilation edition
We were spotted on our approach to the pterafolk lair, whereupon they started tumbling rocks and debris down at us, so we backed off. Reviewing our situation at the bottom of the west bank of the river gorge, we determined maybe a couple of players were playing from outdated character records. I think the pterafolk lair assault would have succeeded if we hadn't been fumbling along under the illusion of being depleted of hitpoints and spell slots.
Crossing the river to investigate the shiny that our Rogue had spotted when he was being absconded by pterafolk some sessions ago, we were moderately nibbled by piranhas. Our various breath weapons, swordcraft, and cantrips thinned their numbers enough finish crossing with only minor wounds, and we stopped to feast on some we'd caught before proceeding up the east bank.
As we crested a ridge we spotted a Tyrannosaurus on the hunt, about the same time it spotted us. Our barbarian managed to rig a trip-rope as the beast charged, which rendered it prone. After some savage tail-lashing and empty snapping of its toothy maw, we put it down for good with no casualties.
Proceeding to the shiny, we found a greatsword engraved with the name "Chiselbeard", thrust into the stone floor of the clearing. Our barbarian stepped forth to heave with all his considerable might to loose the blade from the rock - and instead the rock rose up, sword and all, in the form of a living stone statue.
The ensuing battle was close - first our halfling Rogue took a critical giant-stone-fist-smash to the face, and next our Barbarian was laid out unconscious. Finally Wadgour slipped a Shatter spell through the construct's defenses, and it crumbled in pieces to the jungle floor.
