Being in the area helped me remember the hotel and club where we used to go dancing back in the late 80s - Boomer[']s at the top of the Treadway Inn at 50 Kenny Place, Saddle Brook Twp. It changed hands/brands several times since, and now is now another Crowne Plaza (IHG) property.
This also reminded me (yet again) of the game shop on Rt 4 in Fair Lawn, where "Game Master Ltd" moved when it outgrew its humble space in the "Village Mall" shoppes in the Bergen Mall basement. Anyhoo it was at 26-13 Broadway, which is also Rte 4, which storefrontage is now split between a nail salon and Domin Faux-pizza chain. That address puts it about midway between the Passaic River crossing and the 208/GSP interchange; whereas I thought it was further west, maybe 5 blocks or less east of the river. It boomed for a while in the early Magic: The Gathering craze era, but I imagine that was unsustainable once Internet-based logistics fully took hold.
That in turn inspired me to do a little cyberstalking to pinpoint the address in River Edge where we used to play Runequest. That too didn't quite fit my vague memories, but properties very likely were re-zoned and changed hands some in the intervening 30 years.
