TIL diphenhydramine (e.g. Benadryl) has been around for some 80+ years, is considered a "first generation" antihistamine, and is associated with risk of earlier dementia onset compared to later-generation antihistamines like cetirizine (e.g. Zyrtec). The theory is that late-generation antihistamines are more selectively gated by various chemical receptors in the body, such as in the brain.
