Most windbreaker / quilted winter jackets/coats these days are made with a synthetic fiber shell and synthetic batting. In the vison of a less plastic-polluted world, the first fallback is wool - but that's not going to be machine washable. It would distort, shrink, pill and fade. Also, probably collect dog hair just as much as my synth fleecy jacket. Next up would be linen / cotton shell with down or more cotton batting.
