too bad we're stuck calling it "pedophilia" posted: Fri 2026-02-06 05:11:38 tags: n/a
"Anglophile" denotes someone who "admires England, its people, and its culture". Admiration
"Cinephiles" and "audiophiles" are movie and music enthusiasts, respectively. Enthusiasm

We only find that "-phile" suffix twisted to denote pathology in psychology's raft of "paraphilias":
necrophilia, zoophilia, et al., and of course the one in current news 4385294 times a day: pedophilia.

It's too bad that term is so entrenched in lay discourse. I believe it muddies popular understanding and leaves the door open for apologists to perpetuate false narratives about something that in reality, boils down to sadistic predation. Everyone knows what a "sex predator" is, they don't deserve the dignity of anything more abstract and clinical than "rapist", coin new terms like "exploitation perpetrator" ("exploit-perp"), just dodge the ambiguous "-phile" implications altogether.
