I like to think that as an academician, it would never occur to me to email a department staffer to ask them to contact my professional society to change the delivery address for my monthly member journal. I would just log into my member account and do it myself because that takes no more time than writing the email.

The circlejerk of email login auth on new devices is a great reason to dial back the grognard acct
- might be solved somewhat by adding it to vendor auth app
- - which still makes me mad bc why do I now need a whole ecosystem of apps just read email?
- there's still the issue of accumulated circulation in perpetual spam lists
- plus dubious trust in the face of vendor/fashbloc integration
- limited selection of free-tier email vendors that compete on privacy and features
