Woke at 7:30ish just long enough to buy in to guild battle and drop 10 tokens, and record my dream. When I woke again it was noon. Must be the running making me extra sleepy. A weak coffee, vitamins, started water heating for yerba mate, checked lotto picks. Sumbitches picked the wrong numbers again.

Speaking of lotteries, last Wednesday's PowerBall jackpot was a record-breaking $550M. I caught the fever enough to buy a couple tix for that. (Which probably contributed to my urge to try the FL Lotto yesterday; needless to say I didn't win either game.) There were 2 jackpot winners. A little perspective: the federal government spends that much in something like 80 minutes. It's 10,000 times the per-capita US debt. It's 1/45th of NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg's $25B net worth. Pinterest was valued at $500M in March, and Instagram the same in April.

A little more perspective: the split payout of $275M each is annuitized with increasing payments over 30 years, and subject to federal tax which is currently capped at 25%; taking a no-state-tax case like Florida the first year's payout is "only" ~$3.68M. A hefty chunk of change by blue-collar standards, to be sure, but chump-change compared to a Wall Street CEO's Christmas bonus. I didn't chart the annual payout increase against inflation, but think about the buying power of $100 in 1982 vs now.

Since I am definitely not doing the gym thing today, I
a) laundered colors
b) got meat for chili and cooked up chili (see next)
c) thought about fixing post-submit URL parms in Phosphoros

Food for thought: Subway is probably the best index value fast food near home base, and I never thought about doing it this way, but double-meat on a 6" sub obviously makes better index sense than single-meat on 12", doesn't it? Using this Subway nutrition calculator, we find that index-wise, Italian Herb+Cheese bread is better than my usual 9-grain wheat choice. Chicken in strip form (index .2) is somehow better than patty form (index .1666). (Club meats are a fair runner-up, followed by steak at .1364.) Natural Cheddar is a slightly better index value than Monterey Cheddar, although for the lower cost I'd just go with the Monterey. A 6" on IT'n herb+chz bread with double-meat chicken strips and monterey cheddar is 45g protein per 460 kcal, or an index value of .0978. Top it with vinegar and/or mustard for ~10 kcal, instead of mayo, ranch, chipotle or vinaigrettes, for 100 kcal or more per 12".

All the above is premised on your shop actually having anything but white bread when you get there. Supposedly they had a morning rush and were out of spinach as well. So here's what I actually ended up with: 12" white bread, double-meat oven-roast chx patties and cheddar, for 80g protein / 870 kcal = .0920 index value. Dollar-per-gram-wise, the best value is a 12" double-meat sandwich with half saved for a second meal.

By the time I got back from Western Beef and Subway, it was close to 5PM, and I hadn't eaten all day. Even with the coffee and yerba mate propping me up I was getting a bit of hypglycemia headache. I ate half my sammich and saved the rest for breakfast. While the chili meat was browning, I had the last of the Yuengling black+tans (135 kcal), and maybe 4oz of wine to kill the bottle after I rinsed out the tomato cans with it (95 kcal?) Also, a couple handfuls of Chifles garlic plantain chips (150 kcal? 0 protein).

This was still only 815 kcal, or 345 short of the max safe 1000 kcal deficit, and 10g more protein would be swell. A Banquet turkey fat pie would just about cover both angles, less than 1000 but over 900 kcal deficit and 55g protein for the day. I went a different route with a serving of smilk and some chili. I'm not so sure about the protein value of the chili, seems overestimated, but let's humor it for now and say I finished the day with 2160 kcal spent, 1218 eaten, and 80g protein.
