I'm pretty sure this "waking before 5am" is new since the move. Usually it's no apparent reason at all, this morning it was a dream gone wrong. The early details are blurry, something about driving in rural south Jersey or maybe SoFla: sunny, fields and sparse stands of trees, some flood puddles on the roads to avoid. Post-hurricane-ish now that I think about it. I got out of the car to walk on dryer ground alongside the road, and then called for the car (the Lancer) to follow like a dog.
I guess that brought me to the Annandale house. A new couple had moved into the guest room. They were simultaneously gracious and peevish, bc apparently email-solicited them for ... web design? home network support? something like that. My brain invented a backstory of having UCE'd a regional test list, with so little response over such a scattered area that it wasn't going to be something to try again. The dream rolled along before I could convey that or apologize though. At first they didn't seem all that torqued up in the moment. The guy said he had wanted to push my face into a spiderweb but it wasn't conveyed as "a thing I want to (try to) do right now". But then it did turn aggressive. From offside he picked up an inert gray squishmallowy looking pet creature about the size of a toaster or basketball. Apparently my sleeping dream brain couldn't render a convincing spider, or didn't even try. (No complaints; I didn't want that image stuck in my visuospatial sketchpad this morning anyway.) I fled down the hall and tried to hold the door closed behind me, but he pushed hard enough to throw their spidermallow through the opening at me. I woke up right about the moment it would have impacted.
