Woke briefly 7:15ish, after being up a bit late listening to Gary's "Rock Labyrinth" interwebs radioprogramme. Rolled over and went back to sleep until ~8:30 after I defeated the alarm. Then I remembered some things I wanted to do today, and coffee was calling, and my mood had lifted a bit from yesterday.

Fridge is crowded with portioned bean stew and chili. Now if I only had freezer space. Lots of frozen turkey fat pies, burritos and pierogi to plow through. So, breakfast was a pot pie.

Made 2 cups dry = 6 cups cooked Iberia brown rice to combine with beans and chilis, aiming for 1 fullish 1.5qt storage bins and 4 hearty half-full bins. Assuming 1/6th of a chili recipe (it's actually slightly less) and 1/6th of a bean recipe and 1/3 cup dry rice per portion, each portion comes out to:

    protein:
  • chili: 32g/serving x4 srv/recipe x2 recipes / 6 portions = 43g
  • beans: 68g / recipe / 6 portions = 11g
  • brown rice: 4g by analysis from packaging, or 5g according to this
  • Total: 58g (or 59)
    kcal:
  • chili: 293 x4 srv/recipe x2 recipes / 6 portions = 391 kcal
  • beans: 1034 / recipe / 6 portions = 172 kcal
  • brn rice: 200 kcal by analysis from package or 218 according to that
  • Total: 781 kcal (or 763)
  • Index value: .0743 (or .0773, optimistically)
(better than baseline "healthy", even better than scrambled eggs)

Lunch was one portion of that. I got a late start on it, it was a lot of food, and digesting it definitely held me back on the treadmill. I did a mile at 5.1mph, a long 2-lap-plus cooldown, about a quarter lap at 7.0mph, another long cooldown, a lap at 5.1, another cooldown, and finished with maybe a lap and a half at 6.0mph. The treadmill says I burned 497 kcal, or 2567 total for the day. By the time I got home and snarfed down a few handfuls of plantain chips (Chifles, garlic, they invert the conventional snack sodium/potassium ratio and pack a fair amount of fiber vs. potato chips) and smilk, I was at 1441 kcal (still short of the 1000 max deficit... AGAIN) and 75g protein. So I finished the last of some Blue Bell choco ice cream, maybe half a serving.

Remember when I proposed a rule where skipping running more than 2 days would incur extra mileage? Lol. I think I actually followed that like, twice, before my exercise discipline fell down for months. If you have to cajole, browbeat and bargain with yourself to keep up something that was supposed to be self-rewarding to start with, then there's a deeper motivation problem.

day 14
Like I said, my mood is lifted and I'm not as melancholy as Ms. Cline might suggest. Kind of eye-rollingly amused at the mawkish sentimentality of Patsy Cline (and James Taylor, in that same vein).

TMI alert lol
During that 2.5-month break, my libido was pretty solid for a 44-year-old guy dancing on the edge of obesity. I'd take matters into my own hands several times a day. (Which pace, needless to say, made partner situation difficulties all the more frustrating and baffling.) But now that I'm back on the exercise track and perhaps more important, cutting kcal in what I hope is optimal measure, my libido has receded. A little research in the brocommunity suggests this a common experience: cutting phase = suppressed libido, bulk-up phase = rebounding libido. Attachment to sex was big part of why I gave up on antidepressants, so maybe there's some insight into why I fell off the exercise wagon. And if no way around it short of dangerous script drugs, at least an understanding that my sluggish sex drive is merely reflective of energy being directed elsewhere, and it should bounce back just fine when I've shed some saddlebaggage.
