Gave Mom a call to make sure she got her edible arrangement, which she did. Had to cut that a little short because I was ravenous. I had (and have had all week) a hankering for pizza, but adamant that I wouldn't do the Pizza the Hutt thing. Mainly because the protein:calorie ratio is TWTBW, and it sure doesn't help that Yum Brands is one of the irresponsible corporations that declared they'd be making even more employees part-time to avoid having to offer healthcare under the Affordable Care Act. And Thick & Thin across 441 had no real salad on their take-out menu, so I gave Umberto's a try.

Grilled chicken salad with the "house balsamic" dressing, wasn't real impressed with the dressing - basically oil, practically zero vinegar kick. I think I would have been happier with caesar. The salad itself was chopped romaine, a whole tomato quartered, some olives and spicy giardiniera, and little white (or maybe cremini, but probably white) mushrooms. I sprinkled a generous dusting of parmesan/romano cheese on, which improved it tremendously. No idea what kcal value of all that was, Going just by 8oz grilled skinless chicken and 4 tbsp (i.e. .25 cup) olive oil, call it 800 kcal. By the time I finished the salad and a few bites of what's next, I was very comfortably stuffed.

Also, the chx parm sub (a few bites fresh/hot last night and the rest for breakfast): Not a 12", more like 8-9", kinda pricy for what it is. By the time you deep-fry thin, breaded chx cutlets, and top with not enough cheese to really stand out, it's kind of a lousy index value. I generously guesstimated 20% less protein and 20% more calories than a 12" subway. I really liked their tomato sauce.

Today for lunch we had delivery from Jojo's Cafe. I went with a caprese salad with balsamic glaze ...not "dressing", glaze ...something I had never even heard of before but which I hope to taste a lot more of in the future. I know what I'm going to do with what's left of my bottle of balsamic vinegar at home.
