But in the real world, it takes a quarter-lap to a half-lap for me to crank it up to speed, and decide what kind of run I'm going to shoot for. Evidently that gear-up and decision period at less-than-full speed dragged down the run average below 6.0mph. By the time I was closing in on 3mi, I could tell I wasn't going to make target time. I took the last lap at 6.1 or 6.3 to compensate.
Intellectually I know I should feel great about it, but after such a gruelling effort it's just disappointing to have missed target by 10-20 seconds.
I think a helping of coffee around 1-1:30 primed me. It also kept me up way, way past bedtime. Maybe not just the coffee; money anxiety has me twisted in knots too.

A new "dish" I've "discovered" is heating boneless skinless chicken (tenderloins, 2 at a time, or a single breast) in my little teflon frypan, with maybe a teaspoon of Classico basil pesto, until the outside is cooked. Then I spoon in 1/2 to 3/4 cup of rice to sop up juices, and a like amount of frozen spinach and broccoli. Let that simmer low and slow until it starts smelling like caramelizing. Tonight's my first trial with frozen Pubilx boneless skinless chx breast instead of the Tyson tenderloins, and I splashed in a little extra olive oil and merlot.
