I got very spoiled with summer parking at church. Today I had to circle the block and ended up parking on the south side lawn, just about the last possible space on church grounds, and creeped in in the middle of the first hymn.
I have reached that age where I undeniably need reading glasses. I can't see the words in the hymnal to sing along.
It was especially important to me to make church today, because after the service the rector Fr. Andrew was kicking off a newcomer class series. The newcomer thing was something I never quite got around to at St. Vincent. (yes, rector, you hardly even know 'er lolol. That's a new vocabulary term from the class. Also narthex and transept.)
The second Sunday of the month, the "brothers" host a $5 pancake breakfast, which was fortunate because I was in need of some blood sugar and second coffee by the time the service was over. During the class Fr. Andrew pointed out the icons and tile hangings of the stations of the cross. This sparked an idea to document all the glass etchings and banners (the apostles), the stained glasswork, the holy water font in progress, the stations-of-the-cross tiles, embroidered pillows around the altar etc., all on the website, museum-style. I lingered after class to chat with him about that, he seemed pretty happy to have someone volunteering to work on their website.
Skipped the gym, as breakfast had laid a bit heavy on my tummy. Few things could be as tasty as those bacon-grease-laced grits though. Also skipped Total Wine and got a bottle of Sutter Home merlot on sale at Publix for the week's cooking instead. I had forgotten how much more complex and delicious SH is than the Franzia box merlot. Even the big Pubilx at Glades and 441 did not have a familiar brand of sliced black olives; I went with Lindsay canned instead. Celentano cheese tortellini were on sale too. Dinner tonight is looking like feta-spinach pierogis to start, and then chicken tenderloins, spinach and broccoli in a bit of jarred Classico spicy red pepper sauce.
