What I'm actually eating? Alma whole-wheat fusilli mixed with chickpeas, dressed in olive oil and balsamic vinegar, dusted with parmesan/romano cheese, with a glass of Liberty Creek merlot (12% ABV * 1.5L/$6.99 = 25.75 bodine value). Not quite as rewarding as the Little Penguin merlot but still not bad. Pretty sure Western Beef screwed up at the register again, $6.99 is a credible 750ml price, and a stellar 1.5L price. Maybe that's the wheel of karma coming back around from the overpriced yerba maté. The ... (...more)

Dear Google, I love how you index the whole interwebs and make everything searchable, really I do. But when my search terms are, for a hypothetical example, "latino tranny shaved teens" and I click the "videos" link, we both know that Youtube's are not the most relevant results. Yet there they are - pages of them, ranked ahead of actually relevant results. So please. We know you own Youtube now, just as we know Youtube is less relevant, by nature of its policy, than countless other sites for certain... (...more)

"Sort" 1/3 cup each of non-lentil beans. Found a stone or something in the pintos, otherwise clean. Rinse and drain 2 passes in cool water, bring to a boil in 2 cups water (up from 1+2/3 cups last time) with a few shakes lite salt, let boil ~2 minutes, and remove from heat to let cool/soak at least an hour. (more like 2-2.5 hours here) Gently mix in 1.5-2 tbsp olive oil, a couple more shakes lite salt, a scant cup frozen broccoli cuts crowns and a generous cup frozen chopped spinach, 2/3 cups lentils (r... Tropical Storm Isaac started shaping up early to mid-last-week, and the landlord called expressly on Wednesday to tell me "a mobile home is no place to be during a hurricane". The system was described as "big and sloppy" as it downed power lines in Cuba and rained heavily on Haiti. Most of Friday we had gusty winds and showers, dunno if that was part of the storm system or just a free appetizer. Yesterday more of the same but moreso, with winds climbing to "howling" speeds. Distinct storm bands woke me a c... (...more)

Last night I made what's becoming a standard dish: half a bag of Alma whole-wheat fusilli and half a bag of chickpeas I'd cooked from dry earlier in the week, tossed in oil and balsamic vinegar. This time I added a little crumbed blended parmesan+romano cheese. Actually I thought it was rather a lot of cheese, but the balsamic vinegar drowned it out. I didn't even use all that much vinegar. The cheese isn't a good condiment value unless you put it on really bland foods. I ate about half of that by ~10PM... (...more)
